Rock and Roll Night in Review

So, last night was the rock and roll theme night on "American Idol." When the contestants came strutting onto the stage with thier leather jackets, spiked hair, and tight pants, my wingmates and I couldn't help but giggle.

Despite the crazy outfits though, we were all super-pumped because it seemed like rock and roll would be a great genre for everyone to, well, rock at. So, we were actually kind of disappointed when the show didn't live up to our wild expectations.

None of the four contestants performed to the best of thier abilities. We heard pitch problems, which have been pretty much nonexistant so far this season, and the songs overall were slightly boring.

The best part of the show was the duets. This week, for a change of pace, the contestants split into 2 groups to sing rock duets together. Adam and Allison sang "Slow Ride" and Kris and Danny sang "Renegade." Both of the duets were pretty high energy, and we could just tell that the contestants were having a lot of fun.

It's hard to say what will happen tonight. We'll have to say goodbye to one of our favorite contestants, and hopefully the top three will step it up for next week's competition.

Rock and Roll Race to the Finish!

American Idol is back again tonight at 7, in case you decide to watch!

Tonight Adam, Kris, Danny, and Allison will perform songs from the rock and roll genre, and tomorrow one of them will go home. Now that it's down to the final four, I honestly couldn't pick who I think should leave.

Kris plays a lot of songs on the guitar while he sings, and he has such a sweet easy voice to listen to. One thing that I really appreciate about Kris Allen is that he is a genuine artist. He can take songs, even popular ones that we all know, and change them up into his own style. I can definitely picture myself buying a cd of music like his.

Danny just has a power voice. The judges are always saying things like "Danny, you could sing the phonebook and we would love it." I think it's true, and I always look forward to his performances.

Allison is the girl rock-er. Tonight will be a really good chance for her to show her stuff I think, but it also puts a little pressure on her to do well because it's her thing. Allison is only 16 years old, but you'd never guess it from the control she has over her voice.

And Adam's crazy personality and amazing vocal ability are sure to make him a top competitor.

So, I don't know what to say. We'll see what happens tonight at 7!

Adam the Punk

One of my favorite contestants on the show is definitely Adam Lambert.

For those of you who don't watch the show, here's a brief description:

  • He's a punk.

It's true. Whether is jet black hair is slicked back, spiked up, or waved in a sort of modern Elvis style, you can be sure that he is looking sufficiently punk-ey. And just like you can never tell what Adam's hair or clothes will look like, his performances are completely unpredictable.

I think that's why I like him so much. Everytime he takes the stage to perform, you just expect something crazy. From wild, screaming performances of "Born to Be Wild" to heartfelt ballads like "The Tracks of my Tears" Lambert consistently "wows" the audience.

If you want to check out videos or pictures of Adam and the other contestants, go to www.americanidol.com. It has tons of great stuff!

Farewell, Matt Giraud!

I don't know if you guys watch "American Idol" at all, but in case you don't I thought I would give you a brief synopsis of the show this season.

This year has been crazy because every one of the contestants is so talented. I remember last year, my friend Amanda and I had figured out the order of who was going home when, because it was so easy to tell who was better than who.

But this year that is not the case at all. So far everything has gone as Amanda and I expected, but now we're down to the final four, and it's impossible to say what will happen. I can't even choose my favorite contestant out of these four!

Here are Season 8's final four contestants:
  • Adam Lambert
  • Allison Iraheta
  • Danny Gokey
  • Kris Allen

On Wednesday night Matt Giraud went home. I didn't get to see the show because of night class, but Amanda and I had decided that he was going to be the one to go, so it was no surprise when I checked my text that he was in the bottom three.

But, we were sad to say goodbye to our "friend" Matt. The good news is, since he is so talented, chances are someone will give him a record deal. So goodbye for now, Matt! I look forward to hearing you on the radio someday soon!
